Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra

198７年にベルリン市に後援によって、アレクサンダー・フォン・シュリッペンバッハが音 楽監督となり、ベルリン・コンテンポラリー・オーケストラ(BCJO)が結成された。現代の 重要な作曲家に委嘱した作品や、過去に作られた優れた作品を現代的にアレンジして演奏 している。メンバーはエヴァン・パーカーなどのベテラン勢、ウォルター・ウィールボス などの中堅ミュージシャン、アクセル・ドナーやルディ・マハールなどの若手まで多様な 顔ぶれだ。井野信義もメンバーの一人であり、実は独英仏蘭日と多国籍オーケストラであ る。BCJOはベルリンジャズ祭、ドナウエッシンゲン現代音楽祭など世界各地で公演を行 っており、世界でも屈指の現代ジャズ・オーケストラとして現在も高く評価されている。 また、コンサート活動の他、２年に一度ベルリンでワークショップも行っている。1996年 に来日し、日本人ミュージシャンも含めたメンバーで日本ツアーを行った。高瀬アキはこ のオーケストラのピアニストであるばかりではなく、作品を提供するなど、音楽監督に次 ぐこのオーケストラの要である。
